Creating a Spinnakr Message Campaign
There are three ways to create message campaigns using Spinnakr:
1. Respond to a traffic insight
2. Set up a default message for all incoming users to your site
3. Create targeted messages for users coming to your site from specific domains
1. Responding to a traffic insight
This campaign will display only for visitors coming to your site from the domain specified in the traffic insight.
On your Spinnakr dashboard you will see a list of insights that have been gathered for your website. To create a message that will display for visitors from the specific domain listed on an insight, start by clicking the blue button. After clicking Respond, you will see the message options screen.

2. Setting up a default message for all incoming users to your site
This campaign will display a message for all visitors who aren’t targeted by a more specific message campaign.
Start by clicking the button on the top right of the navigation bar to get to the settings section of your Spinnakr account. Next, click the green “Add Default Message” button to see the message options screen.

3. Creating targeted messages for users coming to your site from specific domains
This campaign will allow you to specify domains to target with messages. This is best used in cases where you anticipate getting traffic from specific sources and you would like to set up messages for those visitors without waiting for Spinnakr to catch them.
Start by clicking thebutton on
the top right of your homepage to get to the campaigns section of your
Spinnakr account.
In the campaigns section of your account, click the blue button to create a new campaign. After clicking Create, you will see a campaign set-up menu with a Source field. Enter the domain.com of the specific source you would like to target with your message.
Message Options
These options let you set the message and button text and the button link.
If you are creating a new message, leave the dropdown at the default position. Otherwise if you would like to use a preset template or one that you have created, select it from the menu.
Message
Click in the “Type your message…” box and begin typing to add your message.
Adding a Button
The button is the call to action for your message. When clicked it will direct users to the specified link you enter in the next step. Type your button text into the “Button says” section and then position the button by typing [[button]] in your message where you would like it to appear.
Button Link
Enter a properly formatted URL in the “Button directs traffic to” section. This URL is where the user will be sent when they click the button in your message.
Display Options
These options let you choose the position and color of your message.
Display Format
Use the “Specify Display Format” to choose where on your page your message will show up. These options control the position of the message and how it will display in relation to your website. Here is a brief explanation of each option:
- Inherit – Uses the format you have set as your default in the settings section.
- Top Insert – The message displays at the top of the page with an animation that appears to push your webpage down to make room for the message bar. The message bar doesn’t cover the elements on your page.
- Top Overlay - The message displays at the top of the page with an animation that lays over the top of your webpage. This message bar will cover elements on your page.
- Bottom – The message displays in a fixed position at the bottom of the page and stays there as the page scrolls.
- Inline – This option requires you to enter the html snippet <div id="so_message"></div> into your page. The message will display like a top-insert in the specific spot where you placed the html.
-
Popup – The message pops up near the top of the website over
a slightly opaque background that covers the page.
Background Color
Click the “Background Color” bar to specify the main color for the message bar. For the popup type of message, this is the only color that will display. You can select from the color picker or enter the color hex.
Accent Color
Click the “Accent Color” bar to choose the border color that displays around the message box. Again, you can select from the color picker or enter the color hex.
Advanced Options
These options allow you to control the web pages that your message will display on as well as include custom CSS rules to style your message.
How to change which pages your campaign shows up on
The “Message Display Rules” allow you to set the specific pages that your message campaign will display on. By default, a message will display on any page of your website but entering specific directories here will limit the message to the directories you enter and exclude all others. You can enter a URL and click test to see if the message will display on a specific URL.
Custom CSS rules
The box under “Custom CSS Rules” allows you to use CSS to style specific elements of your message or to override the preset style of elements in your message. If you are not familiar with CSS but still wish to make style adjustments, let us know and we’ll be happy to help you make it happen.
